When looking to relocate to Europe, each European country will have its own requirements for British citizens looking to move overseas. That’s why before you start planning your big move, you will need to take a look at the immigration entry requirements for Italy.
Government guidelines state that you may travel to any country within the Schengen area (which includes Italy) for up to 90 days in any 180 days period without a visa. If you are staying longer, then you will need to get in touch with the Italian government to apply for a visa. Please note that if you stay in Italy with a residence permit or long-stay visa, this does not count towards your 90-day visa-free limit.
You will also need to make sure your passport is still valid. Your passport will only be valid if it has been issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’) and valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’).
Please note that you must tell the UK government offices that deal with your benefits, pension and tax if you are moving or retiring abroad.
